AARON ATKINSON IS PRINCELY IN 'RUMPELSTILTSKIN'

In most fairy tales the role of The Prince is a dream role, generally a sought-after young male who has his choice of plenty of fair maidens who wish to become The Princess. The Prince is usually portrayed as 'the guy who seems a bit more normal than everyone else around him'.

In "Rumpelstiltskin", playing at The Media Theatre weekends in February, it's a bit different for Aaron Atkinson, who portrays Prince Tom. You see, this Prince is...how shall we say...quirky? He's an over-the-top macho dude who is like Jim Carrey mixed with a bit of Dudley Do-Right (sprinkled with some Gaston, just for fun).

Aaron Atkinson, of Ridley Park and NYC
Atkinson, recently seen as one of the brothers in The Media Theatre's production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", has the opportunity to showcase his comedic side in this production for ages 4 and up.

A Ridley Park resident, Atkinson also has an apartment in New York City in order to fulfill his goal of working steadily as a professional actor. He holds an Associates Degree in Musical Theater from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy and has performed in over 25 shows which include "Footloose" and Elton John's "Aida".

Others in the high-energy cast include Jim Conte as Rumpelstiltskin, Shiron Denise as The Queen, Danielle Lachall as The Widow, Katie Davis as The Widow's Daughter, Amber Duncan as Griselda the Witch, and Rob White as The Jester.

The humorous musical production takes great care in not being 'scary' for young children. It's a comedic take on the story of the ill-tempered mischief maker who plots to gain power after he realizes the village is bankrupt.

To see "Rumpelstiltskin" at The Media Theatre (in a production not previously produced by Media Music Theatre Company, the non-profit organization which brings the Broadway Series and Youth Programs to the location) call 610-891-0100 or visit mediatheatre.org.

The funny show is on Saturdays at 11am and Sundays at Noon. It's an hour long and is fun for adults, too! The cast also includes members of The Media Theatre's New School and acting classes.
