She is the winner of the newly christened "Vocalist Junior" contest at The Media Theatre. During this past summer's competition, formerly entitled "Delco Idol Junior", the sassy singer captivated audiences and the judges with her flair for comedy and a take-charge stage persona. Her name is Emily Smith, she is 12, and she is from Media.

In "The Wizard of OZ" she portrays The Scarecrow. Even though the iconic role is constantly searching for a brain, Emily Smith certainly would not be searching for 'smarts'. She has plenty of them, which have been showcased in her performances at Episcopal Academy and in shows such as "The Jungle Book" and Disney's "101 Dalmatians".

An active young lady--she almost has to be such, considering she has three brothers at similar ages--she enjoys playing tennis aside from her time on the stage.

Emily Smith can be seen as The Scarecrow in "The Wizard of OZ" at The Media Theatre weekends beginning October 5 through November 17. It's on Saturday mornings at 11am and Sunday afternoons at Noon. The one-act version of the legendary musical based on the legendary film features all of the memorable songs including "If I Only Had A Brain" and "Over the Rainbow".

The cast features many of the theatre's New School students as well as an ensemble of young actors from the variety of classes offered at The Media Theatre.
