In The Media Theatre’s Youth Series production of The Wizard of OZ this fall, when Dorothy and her friends follow The Yellow Brick Road they will, literally, ‘follow’ the road. That’s because—as in the theatre’s Broadway Series production of the musical a few years ago—The Yellow Brick Road is portrayed by an actress.
Emily Kinka, 13, of St. Maximillian Kolbe School in West Chester, portrays the iconic path to OZ in the one-act version of the legendary musical. She is the 8th Grade Student Council Vice-President there and is involved in track. (Track? Fitting, isn’t it, that she is playing The Yellow Brick Road!)
Emily is entering her first season in the New School after receiving the vocal excellence award at Camp Media Theater this summer.
While new to the Media Theater stage, she is no stranger to the spotlight having performed with her band at World Cafe Live, the Note and Sigma sound. She is a two time finalist in Sea Isle City's Got Talent and a finalist in Chester County Battle of the Bands. Emily was recently seen as Veruca Salt in her school's production of Willy Wonka.
She joins the rest of the cast in The Media Theatre’s The Wizard of OZ October 5-November 17. The musical based on the classic film features all of its wonderful songs such as “Over the Rainbow”. It’s an edited version of the two-act musical for ages 4 and up.
Tickets are available by calling 610-891-0100 or visiting mediatheatre.org. All Youth Series and Broadway Series productions at The Media Theatre are produced by Media Music Theatre Company.
